History
The Master’s Program in Ocean Engineering is a linear continuation of the Undergraduate Program in Ocean Engineering. Master’s Program in Ocean Engineering was officially established in 2005 to respond to market demand for further studies in the field of ocean engineering that can support a deeper mastery competition in the field of ocean engineering, in terms of creativity, analysis, and synthesis, as well as the ability to support and draw conclusions in a research activity.
The competency field of the Master’s Program in Ocean Engineering graduates that will be developed in the 2013 curriculum is the same as the Undergraduate Program of Ocean Engineering competencies, namely technology competencies based on infrastructure and the marine physical environment principles of fluid and solid mechanics, dynamics, hydrostatics, probability and applied statistics, oceanography, water waves, and underwater.

Mission
- Guiding the development and change made by the community through innovative, quality, and responsive educational activities to global developments and local challenges in the field of Ocean Engineering.
- Carrying out undergraduate and postgraduate ocean engineering education programs based on research and development to produce graduates who are professional, superior, and innovative, and have reliable and dignified academic, industrial, and national leadership capacities.
- Preparing graduates to be able to work in the field of engineering, conducting research, continuing education to a higher level, understanding the nature of lifelong education, and developing professional skills.
Educational Goals
The Master’s Program in Ocean Engineering has the following objectives:
- Organizing quality education for undergraduate and postgraduate stages.
- Organizing short courses, training, seminars, and workshops in the field of Ocean Engineering.
- Carry out basic research involving undergraduate students with funding obtained through competitions.
- Establish cooperation with industry to carry out applied research.
- Operate state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for physical, numerical, and field modeling in the fields of Coastal Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Shipping Engineering, Underwater Acoustics, and Marine Resource Management.
- Establish cooperation with professional associations for certification and professional development.
- Achieved the highest recognition from national and international accreditation institutions.
Graduate Milestone
After finishing study at the Master’s Program in Ocean Engineering, a graduate of this study program at ITB must have:
- The ability to apply the principles of fluid mechanics and solid objects, dynamics, hydrostatics, probability and applied statistics, oceanography, water waves, and underwater acoustics in ocean engineering research.
- The ability to conduct analysis and draw conclusions (synthesis) from research activities in the field of ocean engineering.
- The ability to design and carry out experiments, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret data.
- The ability to analyze and make conclusions from engineering problems.
- An understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Extensive education needed to understand the impact of solutions to engineering problems in a global, economic, environmental and social context.
- An understanding of the needs, and ability to engage in life-long learning activities.
- Knowledge of the latest issues.
- The ability to use the latest techniques, skills and equipment needed in research.
Accreditation
Based on the Decree of the Higher Education National Accreditation Agency No. 1507/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/VIII/2016, The Master’s Program in Ocean Engineering ITB has received the title of Very Good (Accreditation A) from the National Accreditation Board – Higher Education (BAN-PT) which is valid until August 4, 2021.
